Supporting Those in Need

Open Table is grateful to the trustees of the Sudbury Foundation for a recent gift from the Herbert and Esther Atkinson Fund of the Foundation for MetroWest to purchase food and other items needed to best serve those in need during the continuing pandemic. Although restrictions are beginning to ease and businesses are reopening to greater capacity, many are still feeling the economic effects of the pandemic. The unemployment rate for the 23 towns Open Table serves was still at 6.2% in December 2020, over 3 times what it was in December of 2019 (2.0%). The extended crisis means savings are running low, and many are experiencing food insecurity for the first time. This gift will help provide groceries and meals for these area residents, and in doing so, we hope will honor the Atkinson’s legacy of giving for public good.
