Mobile Truck Debuts at Honscom AFB

On Saturday, Feb. 3, our dedicated volunteers stepped up and debuted our mobile pantry at Hanscom AFB in Bedford. In response to the recent government shutdown, which impacted local military families, we made good use of our new refrigerated truck and brought the pantry to the people.

A total of 56 family households showed up to choose fresh, frozen and shelf stable grocery items including dairy, eggs, meat and many choices of fresh produce. One person was overheard saying, “This looks just like a farmer’s market!” Additional donations included diapers, toiletries and paper products from community partners including the Concord Recreation and Beede Center, the Concord Rotary, First Parish Church of Lincoln and Church of Good Shepherd in Acton which provided necessary items for these families at this time. Children took home decorated Kid’s bags full of snacks and beanie babies, too!

We brought sandwiches for lunch so families wouldn’t be hungry before or after shopping. None of this would have been possible without the help of the Hanscom Middle School staff who volunteered with our team for this effort – thanks to them, those military families felt seen, heard and cared for.
