Press Release: Grants to Help Grow Mobile Food Programs

Open Table Receives $42,800 in Grants from Greater Boston Food Bank and Carrier Corp

Insulation retrofit for van and personnel funding help support mobile food programs

Concord and Maynard, MA (June 8, 2023) – Open Table, the MetroWest charity dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, today announced that it has received two separate grants from the Greater Boston Food Bank and Carrier Corporation totaling $42,800. The combined grants help Open Table grow its mobile food programs, which support communities in need with transportation or mobility issues.

Administered by the Greater Boston Food Bank, the $16,800 grant from the Carrier Corporation allowed Open Table to retrofit its delivery van with insulation to keep food safe as it is delivered to clients in their own communities.

In addition, Open Table has received a $26,000 Community Investment Grant from the Greater Boston Food Bank, which will be used to hire a part-time pantry assistant and driver who will be dedicated to the delivery of healthy food and prepared meals.

“These grants are integral to Open Table’s mission to increase equitable access to food throughout the MetroWest area,” said Alexandra DePalo, executive director, Open Table. “They increase our capacity to provide safe and healthy food to community members who are too often under-served due to transportation and scheduling barriers.”

Open Table’s fastest growing mobile programs are supporting Brazilian communities in Hudson where its traditional pantry hours largely do not align with clients’ work schedules. Having a mobile pantry program where distribution is based on home delivery and does not require in-person pick-up has been a transformative change to connecting Open Table’s services to those most in need of support.
