Volunteer Spotlight: Liz and Sandy Sullivan

Liz serves as the Pantry Assistant at the Open Table Maynard location and is also the lead contact for our Beharrell location. In these dual roles, she supports volunteers and staff by handling incoming donations, preparing orders, and packing produce bags for distribution. Additionally, Liz assists with setting up the pantry for distribution operations

At the Beharrell location, Liz and Sandy lead volunteer shifts and partner with NCL (National Charity League) to decorate and fill Kids’ Bags. These bags  provide meals and snacks for our youngest clients, ensuring they have food and drinks throughout the week. Beharrell also serves as a community donation center where dry good donations are dropped off from grocery store bins and food drives. Volunteers date-check, sort, and prepare the donations to be stocked on our main pantry shelves. Sandy also volunteers on Thursday mornings to help with incoming donations, prepare produce bags for distribution, and support the pantry in any other ways needed to help distribution run smoothly.

Liz grew up in Connecticut and earned a degree in Sociology from James Madison University. She had a long career in Early Education as a teacher and an Assistant Director. Liz moved to Concord in 2021 to be closer to her brother and his family after spending 10 years in South Boston. She then started her own professional organizing business, The Curated Lifestyle LLC, where she helps clients create organized spaces and sustainable systems to help live their best life. Liz has always had a passion for volunteering, joining the National Charity League in Connecticut and Boston Cares while living in South Boston. She found Open Table in 2022 to continue her volunteer work, believing that no one should worry about or be without food and resources.

Sandy grew up in Colorado but raised her family in Connecticut. She had a successful career at Edward Jones Investments until her retirement in 2020. An avid hiker and watercolor artist, Sandy enjoys exploring national parks, traveling, and spending time with her dogs, family, and friends. Sandy moved to Lincoln in the summer of 2023 to be closer to her three children and grandchildren that reside in Concord. Volunteering has always been a part of Sandy’s life, volunteering with her two daughters through the National Charity League and at the local animal shelter ROAR when living in Connecticut. She saw the important work and resonated with the mission of Open Table when she started volunteering after Liz introduced her to the needs of the food pantry.

When Liz and Sandy are working together one can tell they are family. They have synergy, working seamlessly to get the job done. Hard work seems to be a family trait. Open Table is lucky to have the Sullivans on the team.
