Open Table Food Pantry to Offer Curbside Pickup for Winter Months

Clients order ahead for customized grocery distribution; volunteers fulfill orders in warmth of Maynard Pantry 

Concord and Maynard, MA (February 17, 2021) – Open Table, the Concord and Maynard charity dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, announced today that it has added order ahead/curbside pickup at its Maynard food pantry beginning in February 2021. The new order and pickup format promises to keep both Open Table volunteers and clients safe and warm throughout the winter months.

Open Table has been offering drive-through distribution in its parking lot since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic last Spring. The new order-and-distribution format will benefit both clients and volunteers with:

More Choice – Clients are encouraged to go online at the Open Table site to select their groceries each week. For those who prefer to phone in their orders, Open Table will have operators on call to answer the phones. 

Less Waste — Clients get the right amount and type of food for their families. 

Faster Pickup Lines – Once a client’s order has been placed, volunteers pull the selected items and pack the client’s groceries in bags, which are marked and ready for a pre-determined pickup time. a volunteer brings their groceries to their car.

Safer Shopping Environment – Open Table clients do not risk coming into close contact with others inside the pantry. Volunteers stay warm and dry no matter how bad the weather.

“Online ordering and curbside pickup has become the ‘go-to’ way for guests to interact with their favorite restaurants and grocery stores,” said Jeanine Calabria, executive director, Open Table, Inc. “In fact, it’s also a safe and secure way for Open Table clients to get their groceries, too.  We look forward to debuting this new format in February  2021.”
