Press Release: Fuel Up for Summer

Open Table Fuel Up for Summer Program Provides Snack/Lunch Bags to Summer Campers

Concord and Maynard, MA (July 28, 2021) – Open Table, the Concord and Maynard charity dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, announced today that it has launched Fuel Up for Summer, a new summer lunch bag program designed for local families who find it financially difficult to provide daily nutritious lunch and snacks for their children over the summer months. The summer program is free, safe and private for all participants.

Parents can select a lunch, snack and drink each day for their child’s lunch box or bag. The lunch packs are always peanut free. Each Open Table snack pack includes:

  • 4 individually portioned snack foods such as granola bars, goldfish crackers, apples, raisins, fruit cups.
  • 4 lunches such as wrap sandwiches, veggies and dips, fruit salads and cheese, pasta salads.
  • 4 water or juice boxes.

“Kids’ summer programs, such as those sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley here in Maynard may be free. And yet, many families still find it challenging to provide their children with healthy nutritious lunches,” said Jeanine Calabira, executive director, Open Table. ““With most public school meal programs suspended for the summer, Open Table is filling the gap by providing free box lunches for kids to make sure that they get the most possible out of their summer experiences.”

The Open Table kids packs are available for pick up on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. at Open Table, 33 Main Street Maynard. There is no cost, however, to guarantee availability, packs must be reserved in advance.

To reserve children’s lunch packs, parents can fill out an online form, call 978-344-2079, or email Open Table at: [email protected]
