Open Table Receives Grant from Adelard A. and Valeda Lea Roy Foundation

Donation to support home delivery program

Concord and Maynard, MA (January 22, 2024) – Open Table, the MetroWest charity dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, proudly announces the award of a generous grant from the Adelard A. and Valeda Lea Roy Foundation. The funds will support expansion of the organization’s home delivery program.

Recognizing the challenges faced by many families experiencing food insecurity, such as  mobility and transportation barriers, Open Table is working to enhance accessibility. Traditional pantry hours often clash with work schedules, car ownership costs can be prohibitive, and public transportation options are limited in suburban communities. The introduction of a mobile pantry program, including home delivery has proven to be a game-changer.

Alexandra DePalo, Executive Director of Open Table, emphasized the positive impact during a pilot program in Hudson, stating, “Having a mobile pantry program where distribution also includes home delivery and does not require in-person pick-up has been a transformative change in connecting our services to those most in need of support. We reached roughly 180% more households when we added home delivery as an option for our clients.”

The funds graciously provided by the Adelard A. and Valeda Lea Roy Foundation will support Open Table’s home delivery program by addressing the transportation and mobility barriers which often hinder individuals in need from accessing essential food resources. This collaboration marks a significant step toward a more inclusive and accessible approach to combating hunger in our communities.
