The Greater Boston Food Bank (where we get most of our food for Open Table) is asking for support for a budget amendment to increase funding for MEFAP.
Here is the information:
The House Committee on Ways and Means released its $40.3 billion FY18 proposed budget, level-funding MEFAP at $17 million. Over 70 House members signed on to support Representative Kocots amendment #488 to increase MEFAP funding to $20 million last week. House budget amendment debates begin today.

ACTION: If your Representative signed on, please call your State House Representative and THANK them for supporting the MEFAP amendment. If they have not signed on, they can still vote to support the increase. Please call them TODAY.

Increasing MEFAP to $20 million will enable the four food banks in the state of Massachusetts to purchase 3 million more pounds of healthy food for their network of 800 emergency hunger-relief agencies.

The line item for MEFAP is DAR 2511-0105. The amendment to increase it to $20 million is #488.
